Cataclysm Cinematic Trailer Removed Due to Bogus Copyright Dispute
Cinematic trailers are time consuming and expensive to produce. The ones used for my novels are intended to entertain and draw one's attention about what to look forward to in the novel. Serious attention goes towards the artists who make them. Being an artist myself, it is important to follow all the rules to avoid copyright disputes.
Unfortunately, it is a sad day in the 11:34 world. A copyright dispute was filed against me, stating that the music used in the most production of the Cataclysm cinematic trailer. Let it be known that a license had been properly purchased through an aggregate utilized by the creator. Despite showing clear and concise evidence that I had a license to use their work, they continued to pursue the copyright claim.
Because this is a serious accusation, I reached out to the aggregate. After some back and forth, they determined that they had a record of the transaction and I had a legal claim to use the music for the purpose intended.
I understand the need to protect your work, but I supplied them with evidence that not only was I supporting them but I also had a proof of purchase (invoice/receipt). For whatever reason, they felt compelled to continue the dispute, which made no sense by this point.
I have to be honest. It was too little, too late. The artist I attempted to support had put a bad taste in my mouth, and I had zero desire to support them. The aggregate refunded me for the license and revoked the license. The Cataclysm cinematic trailer has been removed until further notice. I will reproduce another sometime down the road, using an artist who is appreciative of the support and accepting of the rules/laws surrounding copyright.
