With so many stories taking place in the great expanse of the world, this story takes place in a single, small house, primarily in its basement, which serves as a prison for Freya. Freya has been a captive of a drunken sot for several years in an unassuming hamlet in Eastern Europe.

When one of the most powerful beings in the known universe arrives to issue a Test of Mettle, nothing good can come out of it. And poor, poor Freya is the target. As if she hasn't had enough adversity in her life, Freya is stuck in her cell with Pythius, the Prince of Despair and Ruler of the Eighth Circle of Hell. The odds are against her, but Freya can claim victory if she faces her demon in the confines of her prison cell. Pythius, however, has other ideas.
