As the final seconds ticked by, bringing an end to 2018, I had hoped to hear back from any of the nineteen literary agencies that received query submissions from me. As the days turned into weeks, 2019 kicked off a tad more ominously than I had hoped as I tallied eight rejection letters and eleven crickets (those who never bothered to reply). I went back to work this week and submitted queries to twenty-one new agents. Before I finished the latest batch, I received another rejection.
That brings the total number of submissions to forty. I am waiting to hear back from twenty of the twenty-one agents queried this week. Response times range from one to three weeks and up to three 3 months. Some agencies didn't share an ETA, while others said they'd respond only if they were interested.
There are limits to the waiting game. I have firm dates and a number of query submissions in mind before I swerve from the brick-and-mortar road to the e-publishing path. One way or the other, 11:34 is coming soon, and its sequel is not far behind.
